  • Kodiak Alexander Rainey (1/28/94 – 6/15/06)

On June 15, 2006, Kodiak Alexander Rainey (white dog) went to be in doggy heaven while living in Houston, Texas. Kody is survived by his parents, Scott and Jenni Rainey; sister, Bekah; and canine brother, Boomer. Kody was born on a cold winter’s day in Bluffton, Indiana at the farm of Mr. Rudy on January 28, 1994. He was the only survivor of the litter because of the extreme temps. That survival mentality stayed with Kody throughout his great life. He was a gift from God to Scott and Jenni and will be remembered for his long “mushes”, playful stubbornness, passion for eating socks, and general love of life. His last moments were in his daddy’s arms in the office of Dr. Chris Jones, Daddy’s friend from church.

  • that is soooo sad!!!! :(

    i loved kody!!

  • What happened?  Was he just too old?

  • Kody has been blind and deaf for about 2 years now.  His quality of life has diminished quickly over that time.  This past week, he has not been able to hold his bladder and bowells, sometimes “going” 5 times through the night.  We knew that his health would steadily decrease and felt that it would be better to say “goodbye” now rather than later when he was in more intense physical pain.  We are very sad and miss him.  He was a great dog!

  • I am sorry.  It is hard to say good-bye to an old friend like that.  I had to put one of our dogs down before and it was hard but like you , I felt  I was doing the right thing for the dog.  I hope you are able to be at peace with your decision.

  • We had a dog put down as well.  It was Blackie.  He was a good dog too.  He had a huge fat tumor, had cataracts in both eyes, had terrible ear problems and then the last straw was when the vet said that there were signs of one of those dog diseases – I can’t remember the name now.  Not Parvo, but something common in dogs and it’s contagious among dogs.

  • Scott and Jenni, sorry to hear of your loss.   Please know that I have sent word to my own dog in doggy heaven, Mr Trix, to look out for Kody.
